A man and his son were fishing when they were approached by two people who began talking to the man and then pushed his son into the water, police said. Another man fishing on the dock was also pushed into the water and his fishing gear was damaged before the suspects bolted. A vehicle crash put one man in hospital with serious injuries after a dispute at the Mossington pier, where a group of Toronto men in their early 20s were fishing in the pre-dawn hours. Several young men in pickup trucks arrived and began demanding to see the anglers’ fishing licences and shouting racial slurs, according to police. The chase continued on Lake Drive past De La Salle Park and Salvation Army Road until the driver of the pursued car lost control and crashed into a tree, throwing two men out of the vehicle, one of them into the lake. read more

Prince Edward Island has 70 miles of one beautiful yard sale (USA Today)- Topic: canada fishing

WOOD ISLANDS, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, Canada — When my daughter was younger she used to wake me up at 7 o’clock on Saturdays by yelling “let’s go yard ’sailing. That’s the same kind of spirit behind one of the most remarkable yard sales around — the 70 Mile Coastal Yard Sale on Canada’s Prince Edward Island, coming up again Sept. Since Prince Edward Island is home to the Anne of Green Gables historic site, you’ll also find a lot of redheaded freckle-faced icons for sale. Organizers are planning some extras — more food vendors in addition to the local restaurants and church suppers; a big raffle for a fancy new barbecue grill; and a ceilidh (pronounced “kay-lee”) — which brings in Celtic and other entertainers for dance and music. Some “70 Mile Yard Sale” patrons browse items on display at the Plough the Waves Centre in Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island. read more

More than 500 officials with the state Department of Fish and Game are pouring 16,000 gallons of the fish poison Rotenone into the 7-mile-long lake and its tributaries. Department of Fish and Game officials treated 137 miles of streams and tributaries in the area the week of September 10. Wildlife officials have tried overfishing, nets, electric shocks, traps, even explosions to try to kill off the pike population in the last seven years, which nonetheless has exploded and threatens the lake’s trout. read more

Topic: bass fishing - PSU team enters bass championship - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

National Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship begins today on Lake Lewisville, near Dallas, Texas. They go away to college and the come out with tennis rackets and golf clubs and they enter the corporate world and never think of fishing,” said Wade Middleton, the tournament director. Some schools, like North Carolina State, which won last year’s inaugural title, have organized fishing programs that cover most costs for their student anglers. However, At Penn State, the only Pennsylvania school participating, students have to come up with travel money and even boats mostly on their own, said Dave Steinour, the Gettysburg native who is president of the school’s bass fishing club. Still, he’s hoping he and fellow anglers Jason Haney, David Grube and Derik Hughes will do well — better than last year, when they lost most of their fishing time to helping a team from Purdue that had wrecked its boat. Eleven-year-old Ryan Boch of Shaler hauled in some very big fish recently to help his dad, Mark, and a friend, John Brogley, win a fishing contest. read more
