(canada fishing tips) Tackle tackles fishing show as co-host - Akron Beacon Journal

Browns left tackle Joe Thomas doesn’t remember who came to him with the idea of hosting a fishing show on SportsTime Ohio, but why should he care? He has taken that love of the outdoors and parlayed it into a co-hosting gig on Outdoors Ohio with D’Arcy Egan & Joe Thomas . No matter whose idea it was, it proved a shrewd move pairing Thomas with Egan, a fixture as the outdoors writer for the Plain Dealer. Thomas said that so far they have filmed half of their next season, which was interrupted by Browns organized team activities the past few weeks, and will resume this weekend. The playoffs on that cable network are up 16 percent overall, and the Western Conference finals, for which the channel owns the rights, are up 37 percent. read more

(bass fishing) » Plenty of factors in slow start to fishing season - Umpqua Post

The delayed start to the redtailed surfperch fishery above Winchester Bay was another factor, but the biggest factors, so far, have been rotten bar and ocean conditions, lousy weather, below average crabbing success and skyrocketing fuel prices. A few spring Chinook still are being caught above Scottsburg and shad fishing continues at a fairly slow pace due to high river flows. Both sturgeon and striped bass fishing has been slow for the few that have actually tried it, but a few anglers have managed to make some good catches. Recently, there have been a couple of encouraging events such as the surf fishery for perch dropping off over the weekend and some crab seekers in Winchester Bay marking thousands of fish around Half Moon Bay. At least those waters fed by snow melt should have a more protracted spawning period when the bass are in shallow water and more easily reachable by most anglers. read more

World Fishing Network lands first big catch - Globe and Mail- canada fishing tips

When Brian Cooper told people he was planning to start a fishing channel on TV, they wondered if he had stayed out in the sun too long, dipping a line in the water, no doubt. This week, the World Fishing Network, which launched in 2005, landed its first big catch when it received carriage on the DISH Network, a direct-to-home satellite system that will send the channel into 13 million potential households in the United States. Insight produces two signature series, WFN News and Reel Road Trip , and contracts out additional programming consisting of professional tournament coverage, tips and instructions, as well as shows about travel and the environment. Most of us would be hard pressed to name more than a couple of high-profile fishing personalities, but Rubinstein notes that consumer products and the TV channel are marketed by star performers on the pro tour. read more

(canada fishing tips) The lure was just too great - Toronto Star

Tarah Cherwoniak, FisherGirl’s chief operating officer, and daughter Madi fish at the mill pond in Milton, May 18, 2008. Dressed in a pink and black hoodie with a pink cap designed to accommodate her ponytail (all of which bore the word "FisherGirl"), the diminutive Cherwoniak approached the shore and took her place among the men. But the real challenge wasn’t to teach Cherwoniak to fish, it was to get FisherGirl products on store shelves. Not only does it allow girls to identify the product line as meant specifically for them, but pink is a hot fashion colour now and FisherGirl does support breast cancer research â” a cause indelibly associated with the colour pink. At its annual Cast for Cure event, fishing celebrities like Italo Labignan and 20 professional anglers sponsored by Lund Boats will be on hand to help teach youngsters not just how to catch fish, but how to use responsible catch-and-release methods. read more
