FOR better or worse, former rugby team-mates Rhodri Thomas and Chris Board have sunk half a million pounds into one of the most unusual and ambitious farm diversification schemes in Wales. The plush Canada Lodge, set in its own grounds in a secluded corner of Creigiau, north-west of Cardiff, started life as a more modest fishermen’s hut and expanded greatly to become a licensed wedding venue. He and his brother Rhydian, succeeded their parents at the family farm, which now rears beef and sheep having converted from milk production 30 years ago. But 10 years ago Rhodri and his business partner Chris built a fly fishing lake on the land. Now there’s a lake across just under five acres and a picturesque two-storey 140 square metres lodge with room for 140 upstairs and 250 standing downstairs.
