Edmonton’s been building on its strengths - no one overwhelming draw (OK, West Edmonton Mall), but dozens upon dozens of “niche” events and attractions, something for everybody all summer long and a staging ground for winter skiing in Jasper. Edmonton offers a festival every day of the summer, the Rexall Edmonton Indy, Capital Ex, the Fringe, the arts, nature in the river valley and Elk Island Park, history at Fort Edmonton Park and the Ukrainian Village, gaming at River Cree Resort, golfing, fishing and hunting through Northern Alberta . The Mountain Park Lodges chain bought the cabins a few years ago, and has quietly transformed Jasper Park’s once sleepy first stop into a resort equal to those in Jasper itself, with luxury cabins, a family restaurant, hot tub, pool, gift shop and games room.
