Advertisement Goose flags are black pieces of cloth (for Canada geese) that are triangular in shape, about 3 feet long by 18 inches deep. When the hunters spot geese passing far out, they begin using calls and waving the flags. To the distant Canada geese, the flags look like geese dropping into a field to feed. The flags often cause geese passing far off to turn to investigate the activity. We’ve often seen geese that were a mile or more away turn toward our flags, and some people tell me that Canada geese, which are exceptionally sharp-eyed, can spot the flags while they are so far away that the hunters can’t yet see the geese. If Canadas turn toward your flags, have one hunter continue to work a couple of flags until the birds are 200-300 yards away, then allow the flags to drop. read more
