A number of our fisheries closed last night, such as Eagle Lake and salmon fishing on the Sacramento River from Red Bluff down. The changes to the regulations taking effect New Year’s Day include expanding the places where a second rod stamp is allowable to include “all inland waters except those waters in which only artificial lures or barbless hooks may be used. Every year at dawn on New Year’s Day there are crowds of anglers vying for a spot in the river. Past opening day, the fish scatter down river and there is an overall up tick in steelheading for a couple weeks in the Oroville Wildlife Area just down river. read more
