Fishing for chinook salmon and hatchery steelhead will reopen Monday on large areas of the Columbia River. Sport fishing for summer chinook salmon will open from Bonneville Dam to Priest Rapids Dam and run through July 31. Approximately 52,000 summer chinook salmon are expected to return to the Columbia River this season, up from 37,200 last year, according to a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife news release. Bud Herlitzka at Spanaway Lake Boathouse said still-fishing with Power Bait has been producing the bigger fish, while anglers are catching the smaller fish trolling near the surface. read more
