Skeptics may have been fishing for another reason for Jim Lorentz’s decision to retire from the Buffalo Sabres’ broadcast booth besides his tiring of the travel. But reached via telephone in New Brunswick, Canada, where he spends his summer fishing for Atlantic salmon, the 60-year-old Lorentz confirmed the travel was the entire reason. He agreed with Sabres managing partner Larry Quinn’s suggestion that the decision to retire surprised Lorentz as much as it did the Sabres. Lorentz was apologetic about taking so long to decide whether he was going to return, putting the Sabres in a bind to find a replacement a week before the season begins. read more
