River fishing was good last week and getting better even though most rivers are experiencing low water. Steelhead and coho are being caught in Olympic Peninsula rivers, but catching them has been difficult because of low water. Fishing still is allowed in the Westport Boat Basin and Ocean Shores Boat Basin. Closer to home, saltwater fishing has slowed in Tacoma waters and South Sound and is fair at best in Hood Canal. Gary Bowlen of Olympia, fishing in the handicap area, said he had hooked several chinook over the weekend but they broke off.
