This is the time of year to be fly-fishing the mountain rivers and streams of Maine, where big landlocked salmon and brook trout are making their runs upriver to spawn later in the fall. West Branch, Penobscot River west of Millinocket and the East Outlet of the Kennebec River at Moosehead Lake in Central Maine, Grand Lake Stream Downeast in Washington County and Kennebago and Magalloway rivers in Western Maine â” all conjure up legends of fighting fish in the swift currents of mountain rivers. The dam, which separates Mooselookmeguntic Lake and Upper Richardson Lake, once contained fantastic numbers of baitfish and salmon and brook trout.
