Boyd passed away in 2001 at the age of 86 she is still considered by many fly tiers to be the first lady of Atlantic salmon fly tying. While fly fishing and fly tying are often considered to be male dominated activities, that is not the case when it comes to flies. Most flies offered for sale to anglers in North America are supplied by fly tying factories in Africa and Asia where the fly tiers are almost exclusively female. I believe these operations actually benefit fly fishing as, without these suppliers, and their reasonably priced flies, many anglers would not be able to participate in the sport of fly fishing.
