All salmon fishing is prohibited in the Sacramento River from mid-January until mid-July to protect these endangered salmon as they are in the river during this time of year and under the present Fish and Same regulations, sport fishermen are required to release them immediately if any are caught accidentally. I don’t think he knows that there are three fish ladders at this dam, one on the east side of the river, one on the west side of the river and one approximately midstream in the river. As I have stated before, survival and population density of the fall Chinook salmon in the Sacramento River, depend more on the policies of the governmental agency that operates the Coleman fish hatchery on Battle Creek. I suspect there are people in power that are making decisions on the Sacramento River who have never even seen this river, been here or don’t even know where it is, and probably could care less about any impacts, negative, or positive that affect the farmers, local economy or the sport fishermen that depend on this river for their livelihood or recreation. read more
