Thirty hardy members of Inverness Angling Club turned out in snow and sleet to mark the start of the new season with speeches, a piper and a much-needed dram of whisky to keep the cold at bay. Despite the setback, the president hoped the club would replicate its successful 2007 season, which saw around 450 salmon hooked on the lower reaches of the River Ness. But the 500 members, including 120 juniors, will have to bide their time and adhere to the river’s catch and release policy which states that all fish caught prior to June must be put back in the river.
